Ok...it's been a while since I returned from the marvelous camp pluckyfluff east, with spinning gurus Lexi and Jenny, as our wonderful teachers. I learned a ton from them and all of the other vibrant, enthusiastic, outstanding women at camp--fantastic spinners all! I have to admit that I spent most of my time watching others spin, chatting and generally flopping around because I spin practically in a vacuum here on Long Island and it was just nice to see how my yarns and spinning methods compare to others. I also discovered that spinning is a solitary craft for me. I really like to have my whole mind free to just spin, think and relax. It's really difficult to concentrate with so much going on. So, in all, I ended up with 3 fun practice skeins of yarn, a gorgeous drum carded batt that I need to make into something, and a bazillion ideas that I need to control, stop thinking about and just sit down and SPIN. In between felting and sewing projects, caring for A, and household chores of course! AAhhhhh, discussion of the batt brings up the drum carder obsession. Must have one. No doubt about it. This is the most amazing thing in the world. You just chuck fibers at it, and end up with a gorgeous batt that makes pretty yarn. It doesn't seem to matter what you mix together, it just comes out great. My problem is that I need to figure out which one would be great for all purpose, spinning and for making felting batts...hmmmm. I'll add a photo of a pile of gorgeous batts I took at camp, if I can figure out how to add photos on this editor, heh heh. Anyhow, I need to get a carder for Christmas, if not sooner (hint, hint honey...you reading this?)
Drum carded batts at camp, ready for spinning! Gorgeous, aren't they? After camp, a wonderful weekend with hubby's family and extended family--56 total in the group, I think--on a cruise from Miami to Nassau. Great fun and family! Only one head got shaved, I didn't get seasick, and we didn't manage to terrorize too many other guests on the cruise, thank goodness! Unfortunately, my sweet little A screamed, moaned, groaned, whined and cried through half the trip. Don't know if it was family overload, strange surroundings, not feeling good or what??? that caused her troubles. She's on notice that it'll be years before we take her anywhere again. I'm sure that's not true, but after a few days of this magnitude of upsetment from your 3yo kid, that's what you'd say too. God bless Nana for taking A and saving us, at least at night time, so we could get out and have a bit of fun. Not bad for my 2nd post....I'll try to add pics now!

Hello World!
I guess "hello world" is the obligatory opening post, so I'll run with it. I'm Carrie...welcome to my blog, where you can expect to find a hodgepodge of this and that. I expect that as time passes, I'll be writing primarily about fiber arts such as felting, sewing, spinning, weaving, and vintage linens. You will also get to read about the exciting (or not so exciting) stuff my family is into, as well as adventures in gardening and home renovation. Welcome to my world.
